If you want to write better LinkedIn posts that don’t sound like everyone else’s, let’s talk about what actually works.
Because the truth is, most posts get ignored, not because the algorithm is punishing you, but because the post didn’t earn the scroll.
And when you’re using LinkedIn to build your brand, share your expertise or open doors for new opportunities, that matters.
Here’s how I think about it.
Start strong.
You’ve got two lines before the “see more” cut-off. That’s it. Use them to make someone stop and want to keep reading. Ask a question. Make a bold statement. Tell them something they haven’t heard a hundred times.
Tell a story.
It doesn’t need to be long or dramatic. Just real. A conversation you had. A mistake you made. A shift in perspective. Stories are sticky. They’re what people remember and engage with.
Write how you talk.
No jargon. No press release tone. No “We’re thrilled to announce.” Just… talk. You’re not pitching. You’re connecting.
Make it about the reader.
Even if you’re sharing your own experience, give them a reason to care. What’s the takeaway? What can they do with this? That’s what makes a post valuable.
Ask a real question.
If you want engagement, ask something that feels worth answering. Not “Agree?” Not “Thoughts?” Something that invites a real conversation.
Keep it skimmable.
White space matters. One idea per paragraph. Nobody wants to read a wall of text on their phone between meetings.
Post more than once a week.
If you’re serious about showing up on LinkedIn, once a week isn’t enough. Try 2–3 times. Mix up the formats:
A quick insight from your day
A takeaway from a webinar or article
A tip you’d give your younger self
Something you’ve changed your mind about
A list of helpful resources
A reaction to something happening in your industry
Don’t wait for the perfect moment or a perfectly crafted post. Just start sharing what you know.
People are paying attention, even if they don’t always hit like.
